Saturday, December 5, was a true Winter Wonderland in East TN. Light snow presented a beautiful backdrop as Gamma chapter hosted their annual Christmas brunch at the Johnson City Country Club.
Sisters from Gamma, Iota, Alpha Alpha, Beta Delta, Gamma Epsilon, and Gamma Mu were there. Special guests that day included Dee Dee Rives (current Xi State president), Nancy Davis (immediate past Xi State president), Marcia Kirkland (past Florida state treasurer), and Evelyn Barron (past international president). Steven James, a local storyteller, entertained us all with his wonderful stories. Laughter truly warmed our hearts that day.
As a special project, contributions were collected for the Johnson City CIEC. The music, food, and genuine spiritual fellowship were just right to put us all in the Christmas spirit. Personally, I am really looking forward to this event next December. I encourage all Area I sisters to make plans to be there. (photo & article submitted by Holley Ziglar, Area I Director) |

On November 11, Alpha Sigma members met at historic Elmwood Cemetery for a box lunch to hear speaker, Mabel Barringer, talk about the first black airmen in America, the Tuskegee Airmen. After our presentation, members toured the historic cemetery on a beautiful fall day to learn more about the history and architecture of the tombstones of early Memphians. Many of the markers date back to the yellow fever epidemic of 1793. (photo & article submitted by Lee Lindsay) |

On Saturday August 1, 2009, Sammye Finley , Beta Zeta member since 1979, was selected as the Senior Ms Sequatchie County. This honor is based on family, church, and commuity service. In addition to her activities with Delta Kappa Gamma, she is active with the church youth, Juvenile Court, Truancy Review and many other community activities.
When asked what her advice was to young people today she answered "Be true to yourself, to God, your family and your country. Never stop learning, Knowledge is happiness. Be a life long learner." Mrs. Finley is retired and wonders how she had time for full-time employment. (photo & article submitted by Judith Kerley) |
