2010 Legislative Symposium (31 images)
Almost 100 Xi State sisters representing 30 chapters braved snow, sleet, and cold temperatures to attend the 2010 Xi State Legislative Symposium February 9-10 at the Millennium Maxwell House in Nashville.
Legislative Committee Chair Judy Jackson and her committee assembled a distinguished panel of guests Tuesday night who shared information about the recent "extraordinary" special session of the State Legislature and Tennessee's Race to the Top Application for Federal education funding. The panelists included: Senator Dolores Gresham (Chair of the Senate Education Committee), Dr. David Sevier (Deputy Director of TN State Board of Education), Brad Smith (Executive Director, SCORE Project), Representative Les Winningham (Vice Chair of House Education Committee), and Jerry Winters (TEA Manager of Government Relations). Xi State's own Dr. Kay Musgrove served as timekeeper.
Wednesday morning Symposium participants enjoyed a bountiful buffet breakfast. Assistant Commissioner of Education, Dr. Connie Smith, herself a Xi State sister, brought news from her office about accountability and other current issues facing Tennessee's teachers. At the conclusion of the breakfast, participants braved cold temperatures and blustery winds to visit their respective legislators on Capitol Hill.
Thanks to the Legislative Chair Judy Jackson and her committee comprised of Marsha Rains, Nancy Bibler, Martha Scarbrough, Melinda Carroll, and LaNoka Rhodes for an exceptional Symposium!
