More than 125 Xi State members representing 52 chapters met at the Holiday Inn in Brentwood on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12, for the Chapter Officer Training Workshop. Forty-eight newly elected chapter presidents learned of their responsibilities and gathered new ideas and ways to lead and inspire their members during the upcoming 2008-2010 biennium.
State President Nancy Davis welcomed the group to the training on Friday night. After a general session, specific officer training workshops were held for chapter presidents, first vice-presidents, recording secretaries, and treasurers. Nancy Davis, Nancy Harris, Becky Sadowski, Wynona Dye, and Elaine Warwick spoke to the chapter presidents on a variety of topics ranging from proper parliamentary procedure to striving to achieve a Chapter Excellence Award at Xi State Convention.
Xi State Treasurer Linda McCrary led the treasurers' session and covered the basics of correctly reporting and handling chapter finances. First vice-presidents were led by Dee Dee Rives and Marsha Rains. They helped the participants brainstorm new ideas for programs and ways to spark interest in their members. Former Xi State President Vera Jo Henegar worked with the recording secretaries on the proper way to record chapter minutes.
All participants left energized and enthused to face their new chapter responsibilities. Thanks to Dr. Dorrie Powell for planning and coordinating this event!
