
27th High School Essay Contest
Deadline: March 1, 2012
Purpose:
* To encourage, to recognize, and to reward Tennessee high school students who
demonstrate outstanding writing skills.
Eligibility:
* All Tennessee high school students(grades 9-12) are eligible. Each high school is
limited to four (4) entries.
Topic:
* Some people believe that success in life comes from taking risks or chances. Others
believe that success results from taking risks or chances. Others believe that success
results from careful planning. In your opinion, what does success come from? Use
specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Format:
* Students may incorporate this prompt in any way they wish, but it must be a basis for
the essay.
* The essay must the 350-500 words in length. It must be typed or word-processed,
double spaced, on a white 8.5 X 11 – inch paper.
* A cover sheet, stapled to the essay, must contain the following information:

the student's name, address, phone number, and email address;
-
the student's school name and address;
-
the name of the student's teacher;
-
the name of the Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter represented;
-
the name of the President of the Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter;
-
the email address of the President of the Delta Kappa Gamma chapter;
-
the name and address of the local newspaper.

Honorable Mention Certificate
Judging:
* Content and original development – 50%
* Writing skills – 50%
The decisions of the judges are final.
Deadline:
* All entries must be post marked no later then March 1, 2012.
